Benefits of Being an AIA Las Vegas Member

These are a few ways AIA Las Vegas membership adds value to your professional life:

  • Recognition and Respect - The “AIA” designation
One of the advantages of being a licensed architect member of the Institute is the use of the “AIA” credential, identifying you as part of the community of architecture. AIA members adhere to AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and are required to strengthen their knowledge of the profession and practice through continuing education requirements. Using the AIA distinction with your name announces that you are a licensed, professional who upholds and practices by the highest standards of the profession. It means that you are committed to quality design and to enhancing the beauty, sustainability and livability of our communities.

o    Architects use the designation “AIA” following their name

o    Associate Members use the designation “Associate AIA” or “Assoc. AIA”.

o    Emeritus Members use the designation “AIA Emeritus”

o    International Members use the designation “Associate AIA International”

o    Allied Members use the designation “Allied Member of AIA Las Vegas"

  •  Public Advocacy
AIA Las Vegas works to raise public awareness of architects and the importance of their work in building strong and livable communities. Through public and social media, community access programs, and printed materials, we work to enhance and promote the value of architects and their work.

  •  Legislative Advocacy
AIA Las Vegas provides a voice for the architectural profession that reaches Capitol Hill, your state legislature and your city council.  City, County, State and Federal legislators make decisions everyday that impact how architects practice.  AIA is there to make sure you have a voice in these decisions.  Most recently we were successful in removing the "duty to defend" clause from public works contracts.

  • Continuing Education

In Nevada the State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design requires each architect, in order to renew their license to practice in the state, to achieve 8 Continuing Education (CE) / Health Safety Welfare (HSW) credits, 2 of which must be Codes related.  AIA works in partnership with the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design in order to provide opportunities to achieve these credits.

o    AIA architect members are also required to achieve 18 AIA C.E. credits in order to maintain their membership in the Institute. Through our member meetings, lectures, seminars, charettes, workshops and other opportunities, AIA Las Vegas provides ample opportunities for architects to acquire all their necessary C.E. Credits they need for licensure renewal in Nevada and in most other states.

o    In addition, each year, AIA Las Vegas joins with the Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design (NSBAIDRD) to provide 2 full-day seminars through which AIA members can achieve all the necessary codes related credits to meet the state requirement for license renewal in Nevada (as well as other states).
