AIA Las Vegas November Membership Meeting

"Creating Space and Place for Homeless Youth"

We are now entering the “giving” season.  The end of the year, November through December, our thoughts turn to being grateful for what we have, and looking for ways to give to those who are less fortunate. This month, the Chapter is offering a meeting that brings to the forefront a community issue that is very important, and we are asking all members join with us to learn more about the plight of homeless youth in our community. Homelessness is an ever present problem in Las Vegas and one that is easily ignored, however, architects and design professionals can help to change that scenario by using their design and problem solving skills to help eradicate the problem.

The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth reports that there are over 15,000 young people living on the streets right now. Las Vegas has the third most homeless children in the United States. There are many reasons for their homelessness but it has been reported that most are related to gender issues, and sexuality. This is shameful, especially in a city with the financial resources of Las Vegas.

For the November meeting we are joining with the non-profit group, The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, Andre Wade, Director of The Center and architect Monica Gresser, AIA, founder and principal of Brazen Architecture and a committed advocate for the homeless, to learn more about what is being done and what can be done to create space and place for homeless youth.

The meeting is being held on TUESDAY,  November 14th (not Wednesday) at 5:30PM
at The Center
401 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV.
There is no charge to attend.  RSVP No-Shows will be invoiced.
