January Membership Meeting
“CLIMATE CHANGE: Taking Action to Transform the Practice of Architecture”

Climate Change is everyone’s crisis, and architects are uniquely positioned to help solve it.  In taking action to combat climate change, architects must be able to access the resources, technology and information that will allow positive transformations in current practice.  In 2020 AIA Las Vegas will work to provide these resources and education opportunities for members as well as for the public and the architectural community. Our AIA LV January Member Meeting will launch our efforts by providing an overview of the crisis and our “game plan” for the year.

AIA LV Objectives in 2020:

BUILD a generation of architectural experts to be leaders on Climate Change.
TRAIN design professionals on high-performance building skillsets and best practices that will be     required in the next decade.
DEMONSTRATE skills and abilities to act in the future.
WORK with policy makers to set standards to reduce carbon emissions.
LEAD and SUPPORT adoption of the ZERO Code in Las Vegas and at the state level.
INCREASE the number of Nevada firms who support and participate in the AIA 2020 Commitment.

Featured speaker at the January meeting will be Marsha Maytum, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal at Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, San Francisco, CA.  For over 30 years Marsha has focused her career on community, cultural, and socially-responsible projects that promote sustainable design.  Her work has included the creation of new buildings, rehabilitation of historic buildings and adaptive reuse of existing structures.  Her projects include Sweetwater Spectrum Community, North Beach Branch Library, Cavallo Point Lodge at the Golden Gate, the Thoreau Center for Sustainability and the California College of the Arts San Francisco Campus.
